New DG for State Security

Monday, September 26, 2016

Pretoria - State Security Minister David Mahlobo on Monday announced the appointment of Arthur Fraser as the new State Security Agency (SSA) Director General.

The appointment, Minister Mahlobo said, was made by President Jacob Zuma in terms of powers provided for in the Constitution and in terms of the Intelligence Services Act.

The Minister has expressed full confidence in Fraser, saying he believed he is “equal to the task and will provide the necessary leadership that will ensure the Agency is able to deliver on its constitutional and legal mandate of upholding national security”.

Fraser is not new to the intelligence community. He served in various operational capacities such as the DDG of Operations in the former National Intelligence Agency (NIA), as well as DDG in the Department of Home Affairs responsible for Immigration Services.

Minister Mahlobo said Fraser brings with him immense understanding and knowledge of the intelligence environment and his astute managerial experience will help to move the organisation forward.

Fraser has committed to working with the ministry and the entire membership of the agency to deliver on its mandate. - SAnews.gov.za
