Mzivukile Tom out of Bafana squad

Friday, March 18, 2011

Pretoria - Bafana left back, Mzivukile Tom, has been released from the squad after he suffered groin strain.

The Golden Arrows defender has been replaced by Prince Hlela of Bloemfontein Celtic, who arrived at the team's camp last night together with Ajax Cape Town's Thulani Serero and George Maluleke.

The national team will square up against the Pharaohs for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier at Ellis Park stadium on Saturday, 26 March. Kick-off is 8:05pm.

Also still to report for national duty are the Supersport United duo, Morgan Gould and Kermit Erasmus, who are in Egypt for the club's CAF Champions League match against Al-Ahly.

They are expected to join their Bafana teammates on Sunday, along with the European based players.

Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane also released three more players from camp to join the national under-23 squad, as they are preparing for the 2012 London Olympic Games against Libya.

The released players are Siyanda Xulu, George Maluleke and Mulomo wa Ndau Mathoho and their match against the North Africans will be played at the Daveyton's Sinaba stadium on Sunday, 27 March.

"After consultation with under-23 national coach, Shakes Mashaba, we decided that we can release the three players to him. We know Xulu very well because he was with us in all those camps before the 2010 FIFA World Cup in our camps in Durban, Brazil and Germany.

"It is unfortunate that we could not have Mathoho with us as I would have liked to have a closer look at him, but Shakes has challenges due to players who are injured," said Mosimane.

Goalkeeper Darren Keet will also join Shakes Mashaba's squad on Monday, 21 March.

A total of 5 000 tickets have already been sold for the crucial match between Bafana Bafana and Egypt.

Tickets are on sale at Computicket and Shoprite outlets countrywide for R100 for the lower tier and R50 for the upper tier.
