Muvhango actor laid to rest

Makhado-Popular Muvhango actor, Sammy Moeti popularly known as Vho-Mushasha was laid to rest yesterday at his home village of Elim-Magangeni, outside Makhado in Limpopo.

Thousands of mourners, amongst them, Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Nandi Ndalane and traditional leader, Nthumeni Masia gathered at the village to pay their last respects to the actor who played the role of the sangoma and healer of the people of Thathe in the popular SABC2 soapie.

Makhado municipal Mayor David Mutavhatsindi announced that the municipality will honour Moeti by renaming one of the streets in Louis Trichardt town after Vho-Mushasha.

Paying her tributes to Moeti, Minister Muthambi said the legendary actor was able to use the soapie to promote the Vhavenda cultural heritage as well as the African lifestyle.

“As a nation, we’ve lost a great actor…who will forget Vho- Mushasha’s broken English? In the absence of vho-Mushasha, Muvhango will never be the same. He had his own way of luring viewers to be addicted to the soapie, the fact that we came here to pay our last respect in our numbers is a clear indication that all of us are saddened by his death."

Minister Muthambi said Moeti, did well when it comes to nation-building in the soapie, adding that he will forever remain in the memories of all South Africans.-SAnews.gov.za
