Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Mourners have started streaming into the Orlando Stadium in Soweto for Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s main memorial service this morning.

Deputy President David Mabuza, Cabinet ministers and other dignitaries are expected to attend the memorial service.

On Tuesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Mama Winnie’s homestead and met with family representatives and later addressed the memorial service organised by the provincial government.

Park-and-ride

Government has reminded mourners to make use of the park-and-ride facilities from the Nasrec Expo Centre for today’s memorial service.

“The park-and-ride facilities are accessible at Nasrec Expo Centre 1 and Nasrec Expo Centre 2. Buses are available only at these two pick up points to seamlessly move people to the Orlando stadium,” government said in a statement.

The park-and-ride to the stadium is operational until 9am. Roads around the stadium are closed to private vehicles.

Condolence books

Meanwhile, members of the public mourning the death of Mama Winnie have been afforded an opportunity to sign the condolence books made available across the country.

The Inter Ministerial Committee (IMC) last week announced that the condolence books for the late Mama Winnie have been made available at the following venues: International Ports of Entry (airports), DIRCO Head Office at the OR Tambo Building in Tshwane, Parliament, Tuynhuys, The Union Buildings in Tshwane and at the Department of Arts and Culture.
