Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe attended the Springboks game against Wales in New Zealand on Sunday.

"He attended the game between the two sides," spokesperson Thabo Masebe said.

South Africa beat Wales 17 - 16 in their Group D opening match.

Motlanthe arrived in Auckland on Friday on a working visit aimed at strengthening political, cultural and economic relations that already exist between South Africa and New Zealand.

On his arrival, he met with New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key and attended the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup before visiting the defending champions in Wellington ahead of today's match.

Motlanthe, who is expected back in South Africa on Monday morning, was accompanied by the Ministers of Sports Fikile Mbalula, Trade and Industry Rob Davies, Arts and Culture Paul Mashatile and Deputy Sports Minister Gert Oosthuizen. - BuaNews
