Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has been appointed the new chancellor of Limpopo's University of Venda (Univen).

The official ceremony where he will be installed as the chancellor will be held on Tuesday.

Motlanthe succeeds businessman Cyril Ramaphosa, who served two terms as the university's chancellor.

Ramaphosa, who served ten years as chancellor, has since been appointed special ambassador for the university who will help raise funds for the institution.

Motlanthe will be accompanied by Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande and other senior government officials.

Univen is the first university that Nzimande visited after being appointed as minister last year.
