Mokonyane wishes residents safe festive season

Monday, December 23, 2013

Pretoria - Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has wished all Gauteng residents a happy and peaceful Christmas holiday period, on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government.

“As we prepare to embark on this period of giving and sharing, let us embody Madiba’s legacy and remember what he stood for,” said Mokonyane on Monday.

Mokonyane quoted the late former President Nelson Mandela, when he said: “What counts in life is not the fact that we lived. It is what difference we have made in the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead”.

She urged everyone “as they celebrate and relish the joys of this moment, to remember that there are many people in Gauteng and in other parts of the country who are unable to do so”.

“Let us lend a helping hand to fellow humanity. Let us help those that are in need by showing compassion, especially to children and the aged. Let us also console those who have unfortunately lost family members and friends through natural and unnatural causes during the festive season,” said Mokonyane

The premier further appealed to residents to enjoy themselves responsibly.

“Please don't drink and drive or walk, also please don't look away when you know about the abuse of women and children and lastly, use money wisely as January is around the corner with schools opening.”

She added that law enforcement agencies will be out in full force to ensure that everyone travels safely on the roads. – SAnews.gov.za
