Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Pretoria – Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has expressed shock at the news of the rape, mutilation and killing of 14-year-old Thandeka Madonsela from Naturena, south of Johannesburg.

The grade 8 learner’s mutilated body was found near the N1 highway on Saturday.

It is alleged that two teenage boys left her for dead in the veld after attacking her.

“We would like to send our sincere condolences to the family of Thandeka.

“We condemn her killing in the strongest possible terms. No one deserves to be raped, mutilated and murdered, more so when we are commemorating Human Rights Month,” Mokonyane said.

Mokonyane said human rights also meant respecting women and children.

She applauded the police for making swift arrests.

The suspects have been released into the custody of their parents.

Thandeka has been described by her grieving family as a sweet girl who had big dreams.

Meanwhile, the family has confirmed that the “cheerful teen with big dreams” will be laid to rest next week. – SAnews.gov.za
