Pretoria - Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, had an engagement with young people on the National Development Plan (NDP) in Soweto, on Tuesday.

The dialogue in Soweto was attended by more than 500 community members who engaged with the Minister on issues affecting them as a community, which included substance abuse and access to funding from different government agencies.

“The NDP outlines that by 2030 all South Africans must feel safe and secure, therefore communities need to work with police to curb the scourge of drug abuse,” Minister Radebe said.

The youth also discussed challenges they faced as entrepreneurs with the Minister as well as representatives from the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).

Other issues the dialogue focused on included how the NDP relates to young women and the youth.

The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation will host its next youth dialogue in Durban, on Friday.

The dialogue is part of a series of conversations with young people on the NDP.

The first dialogue was held in Mthatha with more than 180 young achievers from the disability, business, and community development sectors. – SAnews.gov.za
