The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on State Funerals will hold a media briefing on Tuesday to update South Africans on struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s official memorial service, it said on Sunday.

The IMC, which is chaired by Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, met on Friday.

The IMC said the logistical details around the memorial service, which will be held at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, will be discussed at Tuesday’s media briefing.

“Both the memorial and funeral service will be held at Orlando Stadium.  The memorial service will take place on 11 April and the funeral service will take place on 14 April,” said the IMC, which comprises other Cabinet Ministers, including that of Communications and State Security.

The IMC further urged officials to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of financial management policies.

“Guidelines, rules and regulations of financial management for memorial services have been sent to all provinces and municipalities by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs [Zweli Mkhize],” said the IMC.

From Monday, 9 April onwards, a schedule of memorial events taking place countrywide will be placed on the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) website (www.gcis.gov.za).
