Pretoria – Limpopo police have arrested an alleged serial rapist who has been “torturing learners in and around Thohoyandou Block D”.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday with two other accomplices who were later released because they could not be linked to the cases.

“The suspect started his raping spree in 2011 and used the same modus operandi of lying in the bush at Block D, Thohoyandou, where he would attack the girls. His victims were girls aged between 14 and 19 and in most cases he would tie down their boyfriends before raping the girls,” said Mulaudzi.

He said eight girls had come forward to report cases and the suspect had been identified by four of his victims. Preliminary investigations have allegedly linked him to eight cases through DNA testing.

The suspect has also been subjected to an HIV test in accordance with the provision of the Sexual Offenses Act, Act no 32 0f 2007 as amended, said Mulaudzi.

He is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon. – SAnews.gov.za
