Communications Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has called on all citizens to play their part responsibly and together build a united, non-racist, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa.

The Minister briefed the media on Thursday in Cape Town on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting that was held on Wednesday.

She said Cabinet has expressed commitment to building a cohesive society for all.

Cabinet has commended the law-enforcement agencies and the collaboration from the communities who helped secure the conviction of Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Jackson, who forced Victor Mlotshwa into a coffin and threatened to pour petrol on him.

“The judgement demonstrates that South African laws are firm in protecting the rights of all citizens,” said Minister Kubayi-Ngubane.

She said Cabinet has further affirmed the right of all South Africans to engage in peaceful protests as part of South African constitutional democracy.

However, the Minister said, the rights prescribed in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996 are not absolute and must not infringe on the democratic rights of others.

Cabinet has also condemned the blocking of public roads, displaying of symbols of past oppression and destruction of national symbols which are a reflection of the country’s hard-earned democracy. - SAnews.gov.za
