Learners sing, pray for Madiba

Thursday, July 18, 2013

Pretoria – Thousands of learners from schools across the country are this morning participating in a special assembly to sing “Happy Birthday” to Madiba.

The learners sang a special Happy Birthday song and held a voluntary prayer at 8am. Radio and television stations were also encouraged to play the song.

Madiba is celebrating his 95th birthday at the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria, where doctors say his condition is steadily improving.

The day has been declared International Mandela Day. Individuals are urged to spend 67 minutes of their time helping change the world for the better in whatever way possible. This year’s theme is: “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”

Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, said while this was a way of thanking Madiba, she appealed that it should not impact on learning. – SAnews.gov.za
