Job creation top of Ekurhuleni agenda

Pretoria - Basic service delivery, poverty alleviation, job creation, youth and skills development will be high on Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Mondli Gungubele's State of the City Address.

Gungubele's State of the City Address, which is to be held in Germiston next Wednesday, is expected to cover the provision of better healthcare and the promotion of quality education as well.

"We are determined to implement plans that focus on our people, and not just spaces. What this means is that the standards of services delivered to our communities will be very high quality regardless of the space in which they live.

"The houses we build, the roads we construct, electricity we distribute, the water we reticulate -- all these and more, will be of a similarly high standard, irrespective of whether it takes place in our former townships, suburbs or central business districts," said Gungubele.

He is further expected to outline some of the major development projects the municipality intends rolling out with effect from the beginning of July.

These include plans that the national and provincial governments have already made pronouncements and commitments on, as well as those that the Council has rightly determined to successfully carry out.

Also topping the agenda will be the achievements of the present term of office of councillors. The country heads to the polls for the local government elections on 18 May.

The State of the City Address will be broadcast live from 10am to 12pm on all local radio stations in Ekurhuleni, namely Kasie FM 97.1, Voice of Tembisa 87.6fm, and East Rand Stereo 93.9 fm. - BuaNews
