Home Affairs acting Director-General Thulani Mavuso has welcomed the appointment of Dr Siyabonga Cwele as Minister of Home Affairs.

“On behalf of the department and all officials, I warmly welcome the Minister’s appointment at a time when exciting developments are taking place in the department and in government,” said Mavuso.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, in a Cabinent reshuffle on Thursday, announced the appointment of the former Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services as the new Minister of Home Affairs.

His appointment to the Home Affairs portfolio follows on the resignation of former Minister Malusi Gigaba.

Mavuso said the department looks forward to being led by Cwele, who has vast experience in government.

“Given his role as Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Minister Cwele is very familiar with Home Affair priorities, including those around IT systems and modernisation.

“We look forward to excellent leadership and great prospects for this strategic department and for our people broadly, who expect high quality services,” said Mavuso. – SAnews.gov.za
