One person has been killed while others have been rushed to hospital following heavy rains that destroyed houses and roads in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal.
“Our hearts are with Madondo family following the unfortunate death of their family member. This is after the collapse of their house in P Section in Umlazi, Ward 85. We have been informed by our roving team and local councilors that many people have been rushed to the local hospitals and clinics following the destruction of their homes,” said KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma.
The MEC said this ahead of visit to the area on Friday, 25 April 2025.
“Other affected areas in Umlazi include Chicago in AA Section, J Section, Ward 78 near KwaMgaga High School. In these areas, houses have been washed away, with community members left homeless.
“In addition, our highly efficient team from Road Traffic Inspectorate has recorded an increase in the number of crashes. Roads have been flooded and bridges destroyed,” said the MEC in a social media post on Facebook. -SAnews.gov.za
