Pretoria - A series of events are being planned for the 50th anniversary of the Liliesleaf Farm, the Escape from Marshall Square and the start of the Rivonia Trial, President Jacob Zuma announced during his State of the Nation Address (SONA).

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Raid on Liliesleaf Farm, the Escape from Marshall Square as well as the Start of the Rivonia Trial.

“A series of events are being planned throughout the year to mark the three events, culminating in a national commemoration on the 11th of July,” he said.

Last year, government focused on preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage with particular emphasis on the liberation heritage through hosting a historic National Summit on Social Cohesion, focusing on building a socially inclusive, caring and proud nation.

“In the implementation of our programme we will work with our Social Cohesion Advocates (Judge Yvonne Mokgoro and Advocate George Bizos); eminent South Africans drawn from a variety of sectors within our society.

“We are proud to have in our midst this evening, two of our eminent social cohesion advocates,” he said. - SAnews.gov.za
