The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is expected to host Africa Communications Week 2023 events kicking off from tomorrow (Tuesday) – culminating on Thursday.

This year, the South African celebrations will be held under the theme “Agenda 2063, The Africa We Want”.

“Government Communications (GCIS) will officially open the week alongside the various stakeholders and partners. The communications festival will also feature presentations from CSIR, Brand SA, Wits University, Constitution Hill and GCIS and many others.

“Africa Communications Week is observed annually during Africa Month, and it is a global campaign targeting and open to all communications professionals with African interests,” GCIS said in a statement.

The events are expected to be held as follows:

  • Tuesday, 23 May 2023: 11am to 3pm at The National School of Government (NSG) in Pretoria.
  • Wednesday, 24 May 2023: 10am to 3pm at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.
  • Thursday, 25 May 2023: 10am to 3pm at Freedom Park Heritage Site and Museum in Pretoria.

The department said various discussions will be held during the week’s festivities.

“The discussions during the Africa Communications Week for communication professionals and thought leaders will be looking at impacting the current narratives in Africa; accelerating communications through innovation, Africa Free Trade Area agreement communications and effective media platforms.

“The various themes to be discussed highlighting the acceleration of Africa Communications through new mediums and innovation will provide opportunities to examine how the communication profession can position itself and demonstrate its relevance as a fundamental management discipline that contributes significantly to Africa’s socio-economic rise,” GCIS said. – SAnews.gov.za
