Gauteng sends condolences to N1 accident victim’s family

Pretoria - Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, has expressed shock regarding the horrific accident on the N1 South in Johannesburg this morning that left one person dead and 30 seriously injured. 

A truck carrying bricks lost control and overturned - crashing into 27 other vehicles, including a taxi.

Both the N1 North and South had to be closed to traffic in order for the emergency personnel to attend to the accident scene.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased person,” Mokonyane said.

She appealed to drivers in the province to always exercise caution on the roads and ensure that they obey all rules of the road.  

Mokonyane has requested the transport authorities to investigate the cause of the accident.

Roads and Transport MEC, Ismail Vadi,  visited the accident scene this morning.
