Pretoria - Freedom Park is to host a dialogue where young people will interact with freedom stalwarts as part of Freedom Month celebrations.
The Intergenerational Dialogue to be held on Saturday, aims to reaffirm the role of the youth in building a united, democratic, non-racial and non-sexist South Africa.
“Through this dialogue young people will learn what it took to attain the freedom and how they can confront challenges and nourish the hard won freedom we now enjoy today,” said Freedom Park in a statement on Thursday.
The dialogue will explore and unpack the values of freedom by the leaders throughout the different epochs of the struggle for humanity and freedom.
The dialogue will also provide an opportunity for youth of all races to talk about their understanding and experience of freedom, encouraging them to air their views on the question of freedom vs race while also providing recommended solutions.
The dialogue will also afford an opportunity for all South Africans to rally together to fight against poverty among others.
“The dialogue also aims to motivate the youth to heighten their passion and patriotism for their country and to inspire them about the need for quality contribution towards a common national vison for the development of the country,” said the heritage institution.
South Africans on Wednesday celebrated Freedom Day with President Jacob Zuma addressing the main celebrations in Giyani, Limpopo.
Freedom Day is celebrated annually to celebrate freedom and democracy and also to commemorate the first post-apartheid elections held on 27 April 1994.
The elections were the first non-racial national elections where everyone of voting age from any race group was allowed to vote. The month of April is observed as Freedom Month for the symbolism that 27 April 1994 represents. – SAnews.gov.za
