Eskom suspends E Cape power cuts

Friday, September 15, 2017

Eskom has suspended its scheduled electricity interruptions to three Eastern Cape municipalities after agreements were reached.

“The pending interruptions of bulk electricity supply to two of the three Eastern Cape municipalities (Raymond Mhlaba and Walter Sisulu) will not proceed this Friday, 15 September 2017. Eskom has reached payment agreements with the owing municipalities,” said the power utility in a statement on Thursday.

Eskom said Inxuba Yethemba Municipality has committed to make an acceptable payment by midnight today.

“Should this not materialise, Eskom will implement interruptions from the evening shift tomorrow, until an acceptable agreement is reached. The continuous engagements between Eskom and the municipalities during this week yielded positive outcomes and mutually acceptable solutions have been reached before the scheduled interruptions.”

However, the power utility informed affected customers that should the municipalities deviate from the new payment agreements, electricity interruptions will be implemented without notice.

“Eskom remains mindful of the impact such supply interruptions will have on electricity consumers, thus the interruption of supply to municipalities for non-payment is always implemented as a last resort,” it said.

On Wednesday, Eskom announced that it had rescheduled planned electricity interruptions to the three municipalities. – SAnews.gov.za
