Dept deals with backlog of installing set top boxes

Monday, November 20, 2017

The Department of Communications is fast-tracking the installation of set-top-boxes in the Free State province.

This has been done to ensure that qualifying-television viewing households that have registered and received the devices can enjoy the benefits that come with the Digital Migration programme.

The department said it is aware that there has been some backlogs in the installation process and it is moving swiftly to address these challenges.

“Installation teams will adopt a phased approach, that will see them going through all the district municipalities in the province. There is an estimated 342 000 qualifying households in province,” the department said.

Officials from the department will continue with targeted public awareness campaigns in this province to encourage qualifying households that have not yet registered, to do so.

The department has also enlisted the support of provincial and local government to encourage qualifying residents to register for this benefit.

The Department of Communications is working together with the South African Post Office to reach communities and to distribute the subsidised television decoders to qualifying households.

To qualify for these government subsidised decoders, television viewing households must have a total income of below R3200 per month. – SAnews.gov.za
