Changing lives for the better

Pretoria - Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), Jeff Radebe, says strong partnerships between government and communities can change lives for the better.

Minister Radebe said this after visiting Kwaggafontein and KwaMhlanga in Thembisile Hani Municipality in Mpumalanga.

“The purpose of the visit by the Minister was to check progress in the delivery of services as part of preparations for the Presidential Siyahlola Monitoring visit to be held in Kgwaggafontein on Friday,” his department said on Tuesday.

Minister Radebe, who is also the chairperson of the National Planning Commission, said Siyahlola is one of the key platforms for government to hear the voices of communities.

He visited facilities such as Kwaggafontein Community Health Centre, Kwaggafontein police station, KwaMhlanga Drivers’ Licensing and Testing Centre and KwaMhlanga Hospital.

“The facilities are part of those that are selected for the DPME’s Front Service Delivery Monitoring (FSDM).

“The FSDM unit plays a pivotal role in the Siyahlola Monitoring and Evaluation Programme, as it works with the Offices of the Premier to monitor public service facilities through unannounced visits and monitoring meetings,” said the department.

The unannounced visit at Thembisile Hani Local Municipality allowed Minister Radebe to see first-hand the successes and challenges in the area.

He was joined by Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane at KwaMhlanga Hospital.

The Minister was briefed on the service delivery challenges at the sites he visited and he interacted with various staff members and members of the public who were queuing at the various facilities. - SAnews.gov.za
