Celebs to head Limpopo tourism campaign

Polokwane - The Limpopo Tourism Agency wants to use celebrities to attract more people to visit the province during the festive season.

Speaking at the launch of the festive season campaign on Monday, the newly appointed chief executive officer, Nocks Seabi, said the campaign would be staged under the theme "My Limpopo Story."

"We want to give media representatives and celebrities an opportunity to experience the province and tell their own stories about Limpopo, its attractions and offerings," said Seabi.

Seabi said statistics have shown that a large percentage of people who flock to Limpopo during the festive season are visiting friends and relatives.

"Our objective is to entice them into touring the province while they are here and also to position Limpopo as a preferred leisure destination for the festive season," said Seabi.

He said the agency would conduct a tour with a number of well-known personalities to showcase and position Limpopo as an ideal leisure holiday destination of choice.

"We are of the view that these are influential people within their own rights and the circles in which they socialise and work.

"By inviting them to such tours, they will become the best pilots to drive the message about their experiences of Limpopo to the various people within these circles and encourage them to experience Limpopo so they too can have their own story to tell," said Seabi.

Agency spokesman Ntlhekeng Kgatla said the tour would take these personalities on the Luvuvhu 4X4 trail, which starts from Phalaborwa, covering the Letaba Ranch before moving North in the beautiful Makuya Park.

"Those who have been on this tour say that there is no other multi-day 4X4 trip in South Africa where you will see more game, beautiful scenery and adventure. We are therefore putting everyone to a test, to explore the province and to share their story," said Kgatla.

In an effort to improve communications with their role players, the agency is currently finalising their much anticipated Industry Trade E-Newsletter which will publish its inaugural issue just in time before the festive season kicks-off.

"The agency will use social media Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to get tourists and citizens to tell us more about their Limpopo story. Follow us, tag us, tweet us and upload your Limpopo story," said Kgatla. - SAnews.gov.za
