Cabinet to await full Madonsela probe

Pretoria - Justice Minister Jeff Radebe and Cabinet Secretary Cassius Lubisi have met with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela over her findings on the controversial police headquarters lease agreement, it was confirmed on Thursday.

Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane said it was agreed that the Public Protector be allowed to conclude the Durban leg of her investigation first so that a report covering all areas of this could be considered.

Last month, Madonsela found Cele guilty of improper conduct and maladministration when the police authorised a R500 million lease for the Sanlam Middestad Building in Pretoria.

She also found the Public Works Department decision to continue with the deal despite legal opinion advising against it to have amounted to maladministration.
