Baloyi meets with former Communications DG

Pretoria - The Minister for Public Service and Administration Richard Baloyi on Monday met with former Communications Director General Mamodupi Mohlala as part of ongoing endeavors to find a suitable solution to the current dispute.

According to a statement by the department, the engagement on Monday was part of outstanding issues for which the minister has requested an extension of her special leave by seven days.

Mohlala's leave of absence was extended by seven days after initially being granted a 30-day leave of absence, while the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) finalised its efforts to find her alternative employment within the public service.

Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda fired Mohlala from her position in July, citing an irreparable breakdown in their working relationship.

An out of court agreement followed between the ministry and Mohlala, which was endorsed by the labour court last month. According to the agreement, the DPSA was to seek alternative employment for Mohlala within the Public Service.

The DPSA requested that Mohlala take a 30-day leave of absence while the process of finding her alternative employment unfolded.

Baloyi was at the meeting yesterday expected to direct Mohlala to be mindful of her conduct during this process and refrain from engaging with the media on content of private and confidential consultations, according to the department.

It said she was also reminded that as a senior public servant she should abide by the Code of Conduct as well as the Public Service Act and conduct herself in a professional manner befitting her position.

The department said it will communicate the final position on the matter once it was reached.

Dr Harold Wesso remains the Acting Director-General of the Department of Communications.
