Johannesburg - Tickets for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final group stage match between Bafana Bafana and Morocco at Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium on Sunday are sold out.
“Tickets for this crucial Bafana match are sold out and we are urging fans to arrive at the stadium on time,” Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula told reporters in Johannesburg on Friday.
Mbalula also announced that government has noted with shock the 419 scammers who are using both the Afcon and government logos to solicit money from the soccer-loving nation.
“Please be warned that no government department is currently running any competition on the Afcon 2013. You would therefore not allow yourself to present any individual with your banking details or any personal information,” he said.
According to the Minister, Bafana Bafana will win the 2013 Afcon trophy.
He said the trophy would be hoisted up high by President Jacob Zuma after the final match to be played at the National Stadium on February 10.
“The trophy will be hoisted aloft by President Jacob Zuma and will be delivered to our people as a symbol and meaningful contribution to the quest for peace and unity of purpose amongst Africans.
“Our team has once and for all unequivocally demonstrated that there is neither room nor place for prophets of doom and unpatriotic Johnny-come-latelies in our national fiber, constitution and make up,” he said.
Mbalula described South Africa as a unique brand, born in struggle and baptised on revolutionary fires.
“In defeat, we show unreserved huminity and in success we deservedly glow and shine amidst the thunderous ululations, passionate singing, salutations of endearment and deafening blowing of vuvuzelas that have become a trade-mark of football culture in our country,” he said.
The minister said the moments for which the majority of South Africans have been waiting – when Bafana wins matches - have now arrived.
“South Africa, this is your time, we must all cease the moment as we take on Morocco this Sunday in Durban.
“We must all play our part in ensuring that we fill the stadiums in all the remaining games to support all the teams,” he said.
President of the South African Football Association (Safa) Kirsten Nematandani said following the national team’s convincing win against Angola on Wednesday, they seem to be heading to the finals of the tournament.
