Anti-Corruption Hotline receives 186 complaints

Public Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner Michael Seloane says they have received a total of 186 complaints of alleged corruption during the first quarter of 2018/19.

According to Seloane, these complaints were reported thorough the National Anti-Corruption Hotline (NACH) and were referred for investigation.

Addressing the media in Pretoria earlier today, Seloane said the majority of the complaints relates to social grant fraud and were referred to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

He explained that the second number of complaints, totalling 37, were linked to national departments.

Of these, 21 were investigated through early resolution and full scale investigation by PSC while 16 cases were referred to the respective national departments for further investigation.

“The complaints investigated by the PSC include matters relating to appointment and procurement irregularities,” Seloane said.

A total of 28 complaints related to officials in the provinces, while 37 complaints were reported for national departments in the 2018/2019 financial year.

“In terms of public entities, the PSC closed 121 SASSA complaints relating to fraud and abuse of SASSA grants,” Seloane said. – SAnews.gov.za
