Another tragedy for Anene Booysen's family

Pretoria - Western Cape rape and murder victim Anene Booysen's mother has died from cervical cancer in a hospital in Bredasdorp.

Corlia Olivier, who was diagnosed with the disease in December, was tasked with overseeing the Anene Booysen Skills Centre in the area, which was set up by the Department of Higher Education and the Construction Sector Education and Training Authority. However she was unable to do so because of her illness.

Human Settlements Minister Connie September said the fighting spirit of Booysen's mother will not be forgotten.

“I personally had the privilege of meeting Ms Olivier when I visited the family last month and laid a wreath on Anene’s grave. I witnessed first hand Ms Olivier's deteriorating condition but she put up a brave fight till her last,” Minister September said.

The minister went on to say: “Olivier's fighting spirit, despite the many challenges faced in recent times, will not be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the Green Door Safe House which is intended to provide refuge for women in need”.

Booysen's biological father Klaasie Speelman was stabbed to death near a Bredasdorp dumping site a month ago.
