Acting head of Gauteng Economic Development Dept appointed

Monday, January 28, 2013

Pretoria - Albert Chanee has been appointed as the acting head of department of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development.

In a statement on Monday, the department reaffirmed its commitment to working towards delivering its mandate as a champion of inclusive economic growth and job creation within the province.

Chanee’s appointment follows on the precautionary suspension of Khulu Radebe.

Last week, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane placed Radebe on suspension pending a full investigation into allegations of non-performance and lack of accountability on some of the key youth development programmes.

His suspension follows the collapse of several projects on youth employment and entrepreneurship development programmes.

Mokonyane has in the past maintained that she would implement consequence management where necessary.

"We will continue to hold, especially senior government officials, accountable and act decisively against under or non-performance,” she said at the time. - SAnews.gov.za
