Khanty- Mansiysk - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi has arrived in Russia to represent South Africa at the two-day VIII International Information Technology Forum in Khanty-Mansiysk.
Before the official opening of the IT-Forum, Minister Muthambi is scheduled to meet her Russian Federation counterpart, Nikolay Anatolyevich Nikiforov, the Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications.
The forum is sponsored by the Government of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug–Ugra and the Tomsk Oblast Administration. It will be attended by heads of federal and regional authorities, bodies of local self-government, representatives of businesses, professional public associations, academics, educational experts and leading international experts in the field of IT development, including participants from BRICS countries.
This year’s forum will focus on a list of joint measures aimed at ensuring sustainable social and economic growth; intensifying trade and economic and investment activity; developing cooperation in high-tech industries; improving ICT and its infrastructure; enhancing economic competitiveness, living standards and life quality in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS).
“This is the first time our country is participating in this forum, so we also want to share with the international community that as South Africans, we embrace technology.
“ICTs have clearly made an impact on the health care system in our country, where use of mobile phones has enabled TB patients to receive timely reminders to take their medication,” she said. - SAnews.gov.za
