Pretoria - Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza has applauded Ntandoyenkosi Kunene for winning Miss South Africa 2016.
Kunene, 23, from the rural Mkhondo Municipality, south of Mpumalanga province, was crowned Miss South Africa at a glitzy ceremony held on Saturday evening at Carnival City, Johannesburg.
Premier Mabuza said the newly crowned Miss South Africa is a good example of being a role model and in inspiring other women in the province.
“She is an inspiration to many women, especially those from the rural areas, that only the sky is the limit in achieving their dreams. We pride ourselves in Ntandoyenkosi for flying our flag high.
“She has challenged other girl-children to understand that not even your poor background can stop you from achieving your dreams. We congratulate her and wish her well during her reign,” said an elated Premier Mabuza.
Kunene first made her mark in the modelling fraternity when she won the 2013 Miss Mpumalanga beauty pageant in Mbombela.
The Premier said Kunene has previously been a good role model for girl-children through her Zazi Campaign while she was Miss Mpumalanga.
“As a province we will continue to rally behind people like Ntandoyenkosi as they do not only fly our flag high, but they bring hope to many,” the Premier said.
The Premier further congratulated 24-year old, Felicia Muwayi from Mbombela, who also made it as a finalist of Miss South Africa 2016. – SAnews.gov.za
