SANDF members to withdraw from Sudan

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has terminated the employment of members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in Darfur, Sudan.

The termination will take effect from 01 April 2016, the Presidency said on Wednesday.  

About 850 South African soldiers are serving in Darfur as part of a combined African Union/United Nations peace mission (UNAMID).

SANDF was employed in Darfur on rotational basis in 2008 as part of peacekeeping operations.

President Zuma has thanked all members of the SANDF for their participation in bringing peace in Darfur. – SAnews.gov.za
