Ekurhuleni on drive to save water

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Pretoria - Following the biggest water supply interruption experienced by Gauteng residents in September last year, the City of Ekurhuleni will go on a door-to-door campaign to get residents involved in the fight against water losses.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the city has identified several areas that are suffering from major water losses. The areas will from Wednesday receive an awareness and education campaign to turn the situation around.

“The week-long awareness campaign, starting from 11 February until 17 February, seeks to educate residents about the importance of conserving water. We will thoroughly engage with community members on how to preserve water.

“More importantly, we will give residents do-it-yourself tips  on repairing internal household leaks, as well as issuing water conservation material such as basin stoppers and easy to read educational flyers,” Gadebe said.

The campaign will focus on the reduction of sewer blockages, which are mainly caused by foreign objects found in sewer lines.

The campaign will be conducted in Tembisa, Etwatwa, Kempton Park, Edenvale and Kwa-Thema. – SAnews.gov.za
