Gauteng Premier to visit Meyiwa family

Pretoria - Gauteng Premier David Makhura will today visit the family of the late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa in Umlazi, Durban, to convey condolences on behalf of the province. 

The Premier will be accompanied by the MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, and Gauteng Police Commissioner General Lesetja Mothiba. 

“The Gauteng Provincial Government adds its voice to those of millions others in condemning the brutal murder of Meyiwa. We urge the police to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to find the perpetrators of this violent crime and ensure that they are brought to book,” said Premier Makhura. 

Premier Makhura will later attend a joint memorial service in honour of the three celebrated sportspersons who died on different occasions over the past week. 

The other two sportspersons whose lives will be honoured are 800m Olympic silver medallist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi and professional welter weight boxer, Phindile Mwelase. 

The memorial service is organised jointly by the Gauteng provincial government, department of Sports and Recreation, Athletics South Africa and the Premier Soccer League. 

Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula and senior members of the sporting fraternity will attend the memorial service at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg at 12pm. - SAnews.gov.za
