Pretoria - Police have dismissed media reports that the officer attached to the team investigating the murder of Bafana Bafana Captain Senzo Meyiwa quit because of death threats.
“Media reports regarding the investigation into Senzo Meyiwa's murder, alleging that Captain Joyce Buthelezi has quit the investigating team as a result of a disagreement regarding a recommendation she had made and that she subsequently received death threats, are false,” Police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said on Monday.
Makgale said Buthelezi was incorporated into the team due to her specialist skills.
“She was not carrying the docket. Just like any other team member, she was assigned specific tasks and must provide specialist input as and when required.”
Furthermore, Makgale added that contrary to media reports, there is no committee to which the investigating team reports.
“This murder investigation remains a priority. The investigating team is focused and determined to find those who killed Senzo Meyiwa.”
Meyiwa was shot dead at his girlfriend’s Vosloorus house in an alleged botched robbery, in October last year. - SAnews.gov.za
