Launch of World Festival of Youth & Students

Pretoria - The 17th World Festival of Youth & Students will be launched this morning in Johannesburg, by Minister in the Presidency: Responsible for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Collins Chabane.

The festival, organised by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) will be hosted in South Africa for the first time from 13 to 21 December 2010.

The festival, to be held at Nasrec, is expected to attract about 30 000 local and international delegates including Heads of State

Chabane, accompanied by NYDA Board Executive Chairperson Andile Lungisa will present the programme for the festival as well as the country's readiness to host the event.

The festival is a platform that brings together young people from across the globe to work together to build a world of peace, solidarity and social transformation, free of human rights abuses.

Other countries that have successfully hosted the WFYS in the past include Cuba, Venezuela and Korea.
