Robben Island ferry to resume operations today

Cape Town - The Robben Island ferry, Sikhululekile, will resume operations later today, after being repaired and tested following an oil leak in the gearbox's cooling system.

Last week, the system was damaged beyond repair and required some parts to be replaced, which led to new ones being ordered from Germany, said museum spokesperson Dennis Cruywagen.

The parts arrived in Cape Town yesterday, and the vessel's damaged components would be replaced today.

"It is being tested as we speak. It is expected to resume operations at around midday," Cruywagen said
