Nairobi - At least four people were killed and scores injured in two suspected grenade explosions in Nairobi, capital of Kenya, police said.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed the death toll, saying the first blast was from a 14-seater minibus, while the second blast occurred in the busy Gikomba Market, one of the largest open-air markets in downtown Nairobi.

Nairobi police commander Benson Kibue said rescuers have rushed some of the injured to hospitals.

"We have rushed several people to the hospital. We are yet to establish the cause of the incident at the moment as rescue efforts are underway," Kibue told Xinhua by telephone.

The attacks came after Western countries issued travel advisories this week, warning their citizens against visiting Kenya due to increased terror attacks in the East African nation.

The Western countries had advised the country's citizens to avoid travelling to Mombasa, Eastleigh in Nairobi and areas within 60 kilometers of the Kenya-Somalia border.

More than 400 Britons on holiday in Mombasa have so far been evacuated as a result of the advisories. Kenya has urged Britain, France, US and Australia to lift the warnings. – SAnews.gov.za- Xinhua
