Pretoria - The City of Johannesburg is keeping fingers crossed ahead of the announcement of who will host the 2013 World Conference on Doping in Sport on Sunday evening.

Johannesburg, Dallas in the USA, Ljubljana in Slovenia and Sochi in Russia are the cities fighting it out to host the event.

The decision is expected to be made this afternoon at the World Anti-Doping Agency Foundation board meeting in Canada. The announcement will be made at around 5pm.

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula was optimistic about the City of Johannesburg's chances. "We are confident that the City of Johannesburg will emerge as hosts, come Sunday," he said.

If the city is chosen, about 3 000 delegates are expected to converge in South Africa in 2013. The conference expected to attract senior policy makers, sport officials, academics, the media, and the private sector.
