Preparations in full swing for final announcement

Saturday, May 10, 2014

Pretoria – Preparations are in full swing at the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) national Results Operations Centre (ROC) to get everything ready for the final announcement of the 2014 General Elections.

Temporary working stations used by the media at the ROC are being dismantled, while the leader board, which showed the results of the votes, has been removed in preparation for the afternoon activities.

After spending three sleepless nights at the ROC, the political parties are taking a morning rest as they prepare for the announcement of the final results at 6pm tonight.

Celebrations are expected to be held across the country tonight by the ANC, DA and EFF.

Last night, the IEC had counted 100% of votes in the 2014 General Elections.

The ANC received an overwhelming majority of the ballots with 62.16 percent of the vote. The Democratic Alliance (DA) will remain the official opposition with 22.22 percent.

The new kid on the block, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), secured the third spot with 6.35 percent. – SAnews.gov.za
