Pretoria - Home Affairs Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who is currently on a four- nation visit to Europe, is expected to hold bilateral discussions with her Italian counterpart on Friday.
Dlamini-Zuma and Italian Minister Roberto Maroni will meet in Rome to discuss immigration issues, the Home Affairs Department said.
South Africa is currently in the process of developing a new immigration policy which focuses largely on the need to separate economic migrants from genuine asylum seekers.
It is in this context that the minister is meeting with Maroni, to discuss the international experience on the issue. Earlier in the week she had similar discussions with French Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux.
Dlamini-Zuma also visited Belgium where she co-signed the Visa Waiver Agreement between South Africa and the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands) for diplomatic and official passport holders.
On Monday, she is to lead a senior South African government delegation to the 61st session of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Executive Committee in Geneva, Switzerland.
The minister will deliver South Africa's statement to the Executive Committee which is expected to focus on, among others, the documentation and regularisation of Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa which began on 20 September and will continue until 31 December 2010.
