Pretoria - The African Union Commission chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has joined world leaders in sending condolences to the people of Venezuela following the death of their President Hugo Chávez.

"He was an internationalist revolutionary. He did a lot toward bringing together Africa and South America (ASA) and to some extent, we owe the existence of ASA to his efforts," said Dlamini Zuma.

Chávez died earlier this week following a long battle with cancer.
