Zuma to meet premiers, Salga

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma is due to have his first meeting of the year with premiers and the South African Local Government Association (Salga) later this month.

Presidential spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said in Zuma's reply to the debate on the State of the Nation Address, it was emphasised that all spheres of government had a role to play in achieving job creation.

"The President's Coordinating Council (PCC), the meeting of the President with premiers and [Salga] will also focus on job creation, especially to ensure coordination amongst the three spheres of government," said Kodwa on Monday.

The meeting will be held on 29 March at the Union Buildings.

President Zuma is also due to open the second Biennial Summit on Substance Abuse conference in Durban on Tuesday, which will focus on the role government and other sectors of society can play in the fight against substance abuse. 

Later on Tuesday, Zuma, together with Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela, will launch the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban.

"The President will use the opportunity to re-emphasise the importance of all Chapter 9 institutions as part of machinery that strengthens democracy in the country," said Kodwa.

Job creation will also come to the fore when Zuma hosts the President's Summit on Job Creation on Friday at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria, while the Labour Summit will be held on 19 April.
