Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma and his Cabinet are today meeting to discuss key issues affecting South Africans and plot the way forward for the country in a two-day Cabinet Lekgotla.

The meeting currently underway at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria brings together ministers, their deputies, director generals, premiers and representatives of local government.

Government spokesman Themba Maseko said the main objective of the meeting was to finalise Government's Programme of Action.

"Since the elections we have reviewed the Programme of Action. We have identified key priorities that were outlined in the State of the Nation Address," he said.

Maseko explained that these priorities had been translated into 12 priority outcomes which were areas that Government would be focusing its attention on.

The spotlight would fall specifically on priorities in education, health, safety and security, job creation, the environment, infrastructure development and the economic growth path for the country.

Specific targets are expected to set for the delivery programme. These targets will form the basis for delivery agreements that expected to be signed by the President and individual ministers who will then become responsible for the actual delivery.

"It is expected that these outcomes will lead to a more focused and better delivery of Government's programmes," Maseko added.

The outcome of the Cabinet Lekgotla is expected to be announced to the nation on Thursday
