Women's Day of Prayer for Madiba

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Pretoria - The Gauteng Provincial Government will host an Interfaith Women’s Day of Prayer at Orlando Stadium, in Soweto tomorrow.

This event will give women of all religious groups in the province an opportunity to reflect, pray and celebrate the role of former President Nelson Mandela.

Briefing the media on Wednesday, Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation said this was in recognition of the ways in which tata Madiba promoted women’s development and emancipation.

The programme will include representatives from different religious groups, including Christians, Muslims, Bahai, Jewish, Hindu and African Independent Churches.

The event will start at 9am. Those who would like more information can contact the provincial call centre on 0860 0011 000.

Information about this and other events can be found at www.gautengonline.gov.za and the province’s social media accounts.

Chabane once again reminded the public that they could take part in forming a guard of honour along the memorial route between 1 Military Hospital and the Union Buildings, where Madiba will lie in state until Friday.

Each day, a procession will leave the hospital at 7am and arrive at the Union Buildings at 8am.

“We ask the public to line up along Kgosi Mampuru Street from the intersection with Jeff Masemola Street.

“From Kgosi Mampuru, the cortege will turn eastward into Madiba Street, along which it will make its way to the Union Buildings,” said Chabane. – SAnews.gov.za
