Pretoria – A 32-year-old woman, who was arrested on Tuesday, after she was found in possession of gold bearing material and more than one million rand in cash, will appear in court this morning.
The suspect will appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of acquisition, possession and disposal of unwrought precious metal.
Hawks spokesperson Captain S’fiso Nyakane said they arrested the woman after information was received that there was a large sum of money, as well as gold bearing material, at a house in Diaas Street 4 Dagbreek.
“When officers arrived at the house they found a woman and upon executing the search warrant, a 50kg of gold bearing material, gold processing equipment as well as R1 082,400 in cash were found in the house,” said Nyakane.
The cash was hidden inside an old geyser next to the house.
A vehicle and the cash were subsequently seized.
Nyakane said the investigation continues and more arrests are imminent. - SAnews.gov.za
