Wholesale trade sales rise by 8.7%

Pretoria - Wholesale trade sales rose by 8.7% year-on-year in June 2011, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Thursday.

"Wholesale trade sales, at constant [year] 2000 prices, for June 2011 increased by 8.7% compared with June 2010," it said.

For the second quarter of 2011, wholesale trade sales, at constant 2000 prices, increased by 6.8% compared with the second quarter of 2010.

At current prices, wholesale trade sales in nominal terms for the second quarter of 2011 rose by 12.4% compared with the second quarter of 2010.

The contributors to the increase were dealers in solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products, dealers in other household goods except precious stones and dealers in agricultural raw materials and livestock among others.
