Pretoria - A warrant of arrest has been issued for the head of police crime intelligence General Richard Mdluli.

"We will not divulge further details about the matter, let us allow the police to do their work," said Major General Nonkululeko Mbatha, who would only confirm that an arrest warrant had been issued for General Mdluli.

Mdluli was promoted from deputy head of Gauteng police to head of national crime intelligence in July 2009 by acting police chief Tim Williams.

He reportedly is to be probed on allegations that he interfered with the Hawks' investigation into Czech fraud accused Radovan Krejcir.

The current whereabouts of General Mdluli are unknown.
