Pretoria - Last year's matrics are this morning finding out how they faired in their final examinations after the 2009 Senior Certificate Examination results were released at midnight last night.

It will be a day of drama and jubilation for the 581 573 full time candidates and 38 595 repeat candidates who wrote their matric finals at the end of last year.

The results have been published in major newspapers and on the Department of Education's website. Pupils can also visit their respective schools for the last time to receive their results.

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, is expected to formally announce the matric pass rate later this morning. The briefing will be broadcast live on SABC2.

In 2008 the matric pass rate was 62.5 percent.

Provincial Education MECs will also announce the provincial results.
